EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION

Sprinkler System Education

Understanding how your fire sprinkler system works helps you respond correctly in an emergency and avoid costly accidental activations.

How sprinklers activate

Each sprinkler head activates independently when the heat from a fire reaches a specific temperature — typically 135–165°F. Only the heads directly above the fire activate, not the entire system.

What to do if a sprinkler activates

Evacuate the building immediately. Call 911. Do not attempt to stop the flow of water. Notify your property manager and fire protection company as soon as it is safe to do so.

Accidental activations

Accidental activations are often caused by physical damage to a sprinkler head, freezing pipes, or excessive heat near a head. Protect sprinkler heads from impact and keep them clear of obstructions.

System impairments

When a sprinkler system is out of service for any reason, a fire watch is required. Contact Inferno Guard immediately for fire watch coverage to maintain compliance and protection.

FIRE EXTINGUISHER USE

Fire Extinguisher Education

The PASS Method

When using a portable fire extinguisher, remember the PASS method:

P

Pull the pin to break the tamper seal.

A

Aim

Aim the nozzle low, at the base of the fire.

S

Squeeze

Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent.

S

Sweep

Sweep side to side at the base of the fire until it is out.

Proper Placement

Within 75 feet of any occupant
Mounted at accessible height
Clearly visible and unobstructed
Near exits and high-risk areas

Fire extinguishers are classified by the type of fire they are designed to extinguish: Class A (ordinary combustibles), Class B (flammable liquids), Class C (electrical equipment), Class D (combustible metals), and Class K (cooking oils and fats). Most commercial properties require ABC-rated extinguishers.
